An age calculator works out exactly how old you are on a given date — not just the year, but the completed years, months and days between your date of birth and today. Enter your date of birth above and the calculator instantly shows your exact age plus your age in total months, weeks and days.

It is the number you need for school and college admissions, government job age limits, passport and PAN forms, insurance quotes and pension eligibility — all of which count age in completed years as on a specific cut-off date, not on your last birthday alone. Change the 'age as on' date to check your age on any past or future date.

How exact age is calculated

Age is calendar arithmetic, not a division. Subtract the day, month and year of birth from the day, month and year of the target date. If the day of birth has not yet come round in the current month, borrow one whole month (the number of days in the birth month) and reduce the month count by one. If the month count then goes negative, borrow 12 months and reduce the year count by one.

Example: born 15 January 1990, age as on 16 August 2026. Days: 16 − 15 = 1. Months: 8 − 1 = 7. Years: 2026 − 1990 = 36. So the exact age is 36 years, 7 months and 1 day — which is 13,362 days, 1,908 weeks or 439 completed months lived, with 152 days to go until the next birthday. Dividing 13,362 by 365.25 would have given 36.58 years, which is why forms always ask for the calendar figure instead.

How to use this calculator

  • Enter your date of birth in the first field — use the calendar picker or type it directly.
  • The 'age as on' field defaults to today. Change it to the cut-off date printed on an application form to check eligibility.
  • Read your exact age in years, months and days from the highlighted result.
  • Check 'next birthday in' to see how many days are left until your birthday.
  • Open 'your age in other units' for the total months, weeks and days — useful for baby milestone charts and completed-service calculations.

Where age in completed years matters in India

Most Indian eligibility rules count age in completed years as on a stated cut-off date. UPSC and SSC notifications fix 1 August or 1 January of the exam year; CBSE and state boards set 31 March or 1 June for Class 1 admission; the minimum age is 18 for a voter ID and driving licence for a car, and 16 for a gearless two-wheeler. Being a few days short on the cut-off date can mean waiting an entire cycle, so always test the exact date rather than assuming your birth year qualifies.

Age also drives money decisions. Income-tax law gives a higher basic exemption to resident senior citizens (60 years and above) and super senior citizens (80 and above), and banks pay senior citizens an extra 0.25–0.50% on fixed deposits from the day they turn 60. EPF pension under EPS-95 starts at 58, NPS lets you exit at 60, and term-insurance premiums are quoted on your age at the next birthday — so buying a policy days before you complete a year can cost less for the whole term.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my age from my date of birth?

Subtract your date of birth from today's date part by part — years, then months, then days — borrowing a month or a year when the day or month has not yet come round. This calculator does that automatically and also converts the result into total months, weeks and days.

What does 'age as on' mean on application forms?

It is the cut-off date on which your age must fall inside the permitted band, and it is often months before the exam or interview. Set the second field to that exact date to see the age the form will record for you, rather than your age today.

How is age calculated for someone born on 29 February?

In leap years the birthday falls on 29 February; in ordinary years this calculator treats 1 March as the birthday, which is the common civil convention in India. Your completed years still increase once every year, so leap-day births are never at a disadvantage on eligibility forms.

Does the calculator count today as a full day?

It counts completed days, so a baby born yesterday shows an age of 1 day today. On your birthday itself the calculator shows 0 days into the new year of life and 'next birthday in 0 days'.

Is my age the same in the Indian and international systems?

Yes. India uses the international reckoning where a newborn is zero years old and turns one on the first birthday, unlike the East Asian systems that count a baby as one at birth. The result here matches what schools, banks and government forms in India expect.

Does time zone affect the result?

No. The calculation compares calendar dates rather than timestamps, so it returns the same answer whether you open it from Mumbai, Dubai or New Jersey. Only the default 'age as on' date follows your device's local date.
